welcome to the 2025 neighbor books reading challenge.

our goal is simple: read regularly, read widely, and read together

so what's that mean?

read regularly

many people set a book count for themselves for the year, and while there's nothing wrong with that, the founders and staff at neighbor often feel that counting books sways us to reading shorter works and makes us (consciously or unconsciously) stray from longer texts.

that's why we're doing a page count challenge.

counting pages allows you to still keep track of your progress and get that dopamine hit when you reach a certain number, but it also allows you to read texts of various lengths.

and we'll have 3 different tiers:

- 12,000 page club

- 6,000 page club

- 3,000 page club.

none of these are better or worse than others. the real goal is just to establish the habit of reading regularly.

read widely

this part is less prescriptive and more of a mindset to help us all expand our literary horizons by adding titles you wouldn't normally read to your reading list.

the goal is to supplement your regular reading preferences, not completely replace them. if you never read fantasy, try some out. if you haven't ever picked up a memoir, give one a shot.

to keep things open and flexible, we won't place any specific number on this part of the challenge. instead, we just encourage you to mix it up every once in a while.

read together

we want this challenge to happen alongside one another. we want to hear recommendations, reviews, and insights from our reading community. we want to create avenues for encouragement and support through both in-person and virtual connecting points.
