local authors
neighbor books is excited to partner with local and regional authors.
however, because we are a small, independent operation ourselves, we cannot accommodate every request we receive. nor can we dedicate shelf space to carry the titles of unsolicited local authors in our store.
instead, we invite writers to visit our local author's table on an agreed-upon date for a specific length of time so that they can sell and sign their books in-store.
we are looking for authors who...
- are local to the mckinney area
- fit neighbor's brand and culture
- can promote the event.
here are the terms and conditions for events with neighbor books.
- Your book must have a valid ISBN and legible title on the spine (no staple-bound books will be accepted).
- Our payment terms are industry standard: 40% of the retail price. If your book sells for $10.00, you take $6.00, and we take $4.00. Be careful not to overprice your book!
- You are responsible for bringing in enough copies of your book(s) on the day of your visit. You may bring as many as you'd like, but we cannot place orders for your book ahead of time at this moment. We will also not hold unsold stock in the store after your visit.
- Please have a marketing plan ready as a way to let people know that you will be visiting our store. We do not guarantee any kind of special promotion, graphics, or features on our social media or calendar. The best way to get featured on our social posts is to tag us on your posts that are aesthetically pleasing and aligned with neighbor's brand. Even then, however, we do not guarantee that we will repost.
because our very limited staff is regularly juggling a wide variety of tasks and operational complexities, we cannot respond to every application we receive. please do not send follow up emails. we will reach out if we feel your book is a good fit, and if a time is available for your visit. if you do not hear back from us after 6 weeks, you can assume we will not be able to schedule a visit at this time. you may reach out again in the next quarter.
